A very good evening as we bade farewell to Anna - who even remembered our brief use of the Steak Exchange where she first started working for Davy's in September last year. We aimed to provide her with a chance to see how port matures as it spends time in the bottle and I think we certainly did that.

So next week she returns to Paris, but is determined to complete her studies and move back to London in a year or two as she will miss us so much.

We will console ourselves with some fine port, much like the port that we had this evening. Despite the fact that the Taylor 1970 ran away with the Wine of the Night vote, none of the ports were shabby although the Martinez 1985 did not show the way we know it can and should.

Was the Taylor 70 an Oporto bottling or english bottler?

I think it was a Grants of St James, though am not 100% without looking back at the bottle. Axel has a healthy number of these from the same stock...

Rob,

you got this wrong. The bottles from this stash is a Deinhard botteling. I got another Deinhard botteling from a different source to check if the Yorkshire cellar made a difference.

sorry that I am anal.
regards

Not at all - inexcusable lack of attention on my part!

At our 70's tasting in November 2011 in Leverkusen we had two different bottlings:
The perfect bottle was from Dolamore, London

and second one was a Morgon Furze & Co, London bottling, this was not bad, but shows not real face of this very good port.

So maybe the Deinhard bottling is similiar to the Dolamore bottling.

Has anyone expierences with the Oporto bottling of Taylor 1970? (I ask because I have three of this in my cellar, but up-to date I don't try one.

Hi Christopher,

having tasted all of these bottelings I think the Dolamore botteling is a notch better than the Deinhard botteling. Friends of mine confirmed to me having also had good experiences with Deinhard botteling Taylor 1970 if stored properly. The Deinhard Taylor 1970 bottle from Rob is from a yorckshire cellar that is particular good due to perfect storage conditions.
The Morgan Furze botteling is good but not special and since Taylor 1970 comands a high price these days should be avoided.
With regards to the Oporto botteling of Taylor 1970 I am afraid to say i do not know. Since today is Friday and you may open one bottle tonight in order to find out.
