5 of us got together at the Bunghole yesterday and shared 8 different blind ports, 2 colheitas and 6 vintage ports. Most of the ports showed well, with one exception. From memory, the ports were Warre 1966, Dow 1970, Royal Oporto 1970, Offley Boa Vista 1983, Calem 1985, Sandeman 2007, Revolta 40 year old tawny, Kopke 1974 colheita.

I must protest. What is all this brown sticky stuff you guys have been drinking lately? Surely you haven't turned to the dark, I mean, brown side

Sounds like a good night either way!

Ignore the man in the uniform. These ARE the Ports you're looking for!

What a coincidence. Five people met at The Bunghole for a blind tasting the very next evening after this and had exactly the same line-up of Ports

All these ports were served blind, with the folks sitting round the table making various guesses as to identity and vintage. We were more successful than normal, with a good smattering of correct guesses as to vintage. Sadly, the responsible adult for the evening lost the two sheets he was entrusted with, so we have no documentary evidence of either the guesses made or the wine of the night voting.

For what it's worth, my guesses were:
Calem 1985 - guessed to be Noval 1985
Dow 1970 - guessed to be Taylor 1985
Kopke 1974 colheita - guessed to be Quevedo 20 year old tawny
Offley Boa Vista 1983 - guessed to be Offley Boa Vista 1983 (mainly because that was the port I contributed)
Revolta 40 year old tawny - guessed to be Niepoort VV
Royal Oporto 1970 - guessed to be an unusual 1970, say a Kopke 1970
Sandeman 2007 - guessed to be Vesuvio 2007
Warre 1966 - this damaged bottle was guessed to be Royal Oporto 1985

I forget what the wine of the night was, but my top three were Revolta 40 yo, Sandeman 2007 and the Dow 1970 in that order (but I wasn't feeling well that night).

Organising thread
Calem 1985
Dow 1970
Kopke 1974 colheita
Offley Boa Vista 1983
Quinta da Revolta 40 year old tawny
Royal Oporto 1970
Sandeman 2007
Warre 1966

Not feeling well because you liked a Tawny best?

Pah! I had to leave slightly early, and suspect the guessing sheet was hidden by someone who shall remain nameless due to his bonus negative points for statements regarding "it's *definitely* not an XXX" After my triumphantly terrible zero at the last tasting, I think I had my best evening of guesses to date; but we shall never know.

My WotN was (rather surprisingly to me) the Kopke 1974, and not because the others were not good, I just got really into it, delicious. Not sure what's happening, with me preferring a tawny over some VP, must be something strange in the water that day. The Warre was an odd bottle, but still very drinkable, overall it was a very pleasant selection of ports; interestingly Alex's top two were my bottom two; I wasn't that keen on the Revolta and the Sandy07 was just too young for my taste, but the rest were all very good; for me it was Kopke first, then Dow70, then Calem85/RO70 and W66/OBV83 not far behind.

As always an enjoyable evening with good port, good food and good company.

Or perhaps liking a tawny best was evidence that I was not feeling well...

I believe that the voting sheets were entrusted to the care of somebody else.
