A very splendid evening, with much fabulous Port, from shippers great and greater, and few duffers. WOTN (1966) was Fonseca, then Niepoort, and in very close succession, Dow, Gould Campbell, and Graham. A splendid evening.

Agreed. Thanks to THRA who allowed many of his children to be adopted. I would say this is easily the most consistent horizontal I've attended lately. Voting was not easy.

Wonderful evening, many thanks for the great company. Good to meet many of you for the first time, with superb port on the table. GC was my WOTN, closely followed by F, Df and G. Although there were quite a few others that I would have been delighted with on another occasion.

There wasn't really so much: Fonseca was dark but the rest were fairly equivalent. You may be seeing stray glasses of Colheita and young Crusted which top, tail and divide the two flights.

Hugely enjoyable evening-so much so I stayed on a little too long meaning an expensive taxi ride home! The 66 is clearly still holding up well with barely a duffer in sight and though the 70 may now be superior I'm not sure there's too much in it. Phil has suggested a similar 'small' 70 horizontal which sounds a not unreasonable idea or else a 66 v 70.

It was indeed a great evening! Great Ports! Thank God I disciplined myself and got on the 2nd last train home. My verdict on 66s stays the same; quite a few are still not ready yet! Wines that are ready are Croft, Gould Campell, Offley and Delaforce. Sandeman is also nice but there is also no need to drink them now.

An evening with much excellent port, and very few duffers. Almost 48 years after the harvest, names great and less great were drinking wonderfully.

Keith Thomas wrote the now-classic Religion and the Decline of Magic, about the period of English history in which we switched from looking back at the ancients and aspiring to their wonders, to understanding that we had exceeded the ancients and would do so by more. I thought of it that evening, as we looked back at the work of the ancients, and marvelled.
