Anything but Port, this includes all wines other than fortified wines (which have their own section) even if they call themselves Port. There is a search facility for this part of the forum.

1959 Chateau Grand-Pontet

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Damaged bottle, cork recessed 1cm below the bottle and covered in mould. The cork fell into the bottle as soon as touched by a corkscrew. Deep red, very dark in colour. Restrained nose, with some dense fruit. Dry and austere palate with some bottle stink and a lot of tannin to give dryness on the late palate. Meaty, Bovril, aftertaste with a relatively short finish. Tatsy, enjoyable, but not spectacular. 85/100. Drunk 28-Dec-13 at this dinner.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
