Come and say "Hello"; we promise not to bite.

New boy from the country

Postby coqovin » 18:34 Thu 29 Dec 2011

Greetings from darkest Worcestershire. I am a keen amateur with a love of port and sweet dessert wines. We have recently formed a small local wine group, av age 40ish, and had a superb tasting last night of Grahams 1970 , Fonseca 1970 and 1983, Cockburn's 1970 and the infamous 83, Gould Campbell 1983, Fonseca LBV 2005 and a long lost bottle of Cockburn's Dry White Port from the 1960's.I met one of your members at an auction in Stratford/Avon earlier this year where he walked off with the Finseca 1992 leaving me with only Graham's 77!
If anyone's interested I'll detail our findings. Mark

Wow.

Hello and welcome, again. You seem splendid.

Yes please on the tasting notes (‘TNs’). Indeed, we have a whole section for them. And please try to follow the YYYY Shipper naming convention.

I’ll answer the 1955 question in a moment, but observe that my 8860 posts has me at Graham’s 1970.

The list of ranks doesn’t have a 1955, but Dalva Golden White Colheita 1952 is at 3500, and Graham’s 1948 at 14000.

Also, for our tasting we tend to use placemats — as you will see if you come. Jolly useful. And the software that makes the placemats (HTML manual, PostScript code) is free!

Indeed.

Where have you been hiding? :D

There has been some loose talk of a tasting being arranged at Hotel du Vin in Birmingham, which cannot be far from you. If that happens, would you be interested in joining the fun?

Welcome to :TPF:

If any tastings are organised for B,ham/Oxford etc that would be great but even us country folk have been known to get up to Town if we have current passports!

Oxford would be an excellent venue for a tasting, if it is far enough North for those who live in the Midlands, since it isn’t too hard to get to from London (and probably the Surrey / Sussex crowd, too). Otherwise do come to a tasting in London!
