Our first millennial poster is unsurprisingly Derek. For his efforts he has been awarded the first full Vintage declaration on the board.

No. The cruelty was assigning “Martinez Vintage Port 1985† to as few as twelve-hundred-odd posts.

Julian,

You are spot on. I've always been a healthy disrespecter of any rank.
But to suggest there are going to be decades of better ports than M85???
Either laughable, or I'm in for one hell of a future! What next? F66 and then F63?

Given that it recieved a WS score of 89 and is not generally regarded as a top flight VP I think there are a great number of VP's that will credibly outrank Martinez 1985.

Derek

DANGER: This is threatening to turn into a discussion about Port which should not exist in this part of the Forum

So we think scoring is a waste of time, and WS is thoroughly overated, UNTIL...

they agree with your point of view!

Of course. That is all these scoring systems are good for

.but I do actually think that there are lots and lots of ports that are superior to Martinez 85, so my point is valid - with or without the dodgy evidence

Derek
And if I accept your blasphmy, isn't it by the same logic, also correct that there are lots and lots that are WORSE?

So why was it provocatively put down as around twelvth in a list of all-time Ports?

(I'm not really bothered, but you're not getting away with poor reasoning!)

Thanks for the warning, Jdaw. I note the gravity of the situation and will proceed with extreme caution.

Alan,

I didn't say there weren't any that were worse. We didn't use all of the ruby, tawny, reserve, aged tawny and SQVP ports so why would we do that with VP? All KillerB has done is pick a low-end VP to ease us in to the great ports. Things like Fonseca 2000 will obvioulsy come much later
