2014 Declarations

Post by jdaw1 »

This thread is to hold details of the 2014 vintage declarations.

Please post declarations seen, ideally with a link to the source. Also please mention bottlings in formats ≥3 litres (double-magnum and up), so that they can be added to the postscript to the essay Big Bottles of Port: Ending The Prohibition.

Shippers: please don’t be shy about posting yourselves. If too shy for that, please email (JDAW contact info) and it will be done for you. And we love detail: links, tasting notes, laboratory scores.

Declared 2014 Vintage Ports, including Single Quinta Vintage Ports:
  • Bulas
  • Cadao by Mateus & Sequeira
  • Churchill (1,150 case equivalents only in halves and magnums);
  • Heritage Porto & Douro
  • Meandro from Quinta do Vale Meao (3,333 cases)
  • Pintas;
  • Quevedo - a very limited release of 165 cases
  • Quinta da Gaivosa (announced at the New Douro Tasting);
  • Quinta de la Rosa (announced at the New Douro Tasting)(700 cases);
  • Quinta de Santa Eufémia;
  • Quinta de Sao Jose (announced at the New Douro Tasting);
  • Quinta do Bomfim;
  • Quinta do Crasto (reported on FTLOP);
  • Quinta do Corvo;
  • Quinta do Javali;
  • Quinta do Noval (1,000 cases);
  • Quinta do Passadouro (featuring at the New Douro Tasting);
  • Quinta do Pessegueiro (announced at the New Douro Tasting);
  • Quinta do Vale Meao (reported on FTLOP);
  • Quinta das Tecedeiras from Lima Smith (1,600 bottles; announced at the New Douro Tasting);
  • Quinta dos Canais;
  • Quinta dos Malvedos;
  • Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo
  • Quinta Vale Dona Maria (BFT 2016 catalogue, page 33);
  • Ramos Pinto (announced on Facebook, reportedly) but AHB believes that only the Quinta do Bom Retiro from Ramos Pinto was released. The Bom Retiro was seen in a wine shop in Oporto in June 2017.
  • Vista Alegre

BFT 2016 catalogue mentions “Quinta Vale D. Maria” “Vintage Port 2014”.

Jasper reports on FTLOP that Crasto have had a 2014 blend approved.

We have reason to believe that Quevedo made a 2014 VP but for personal stocks only.

It is perhaps noteworthy that despite the passing of St George's Day none of the major shippers appear to have announced either classic or single quinta vintage ports being released from 2014.

Annus horribilis?

Sad indeed. A wonderful harvest ruined by rains arrival at the worst possible time.

Do you know if any can be obtained without a bond?

Did they say that it was for that purpose? Where? Or are you guessing?

I hadn't appreciated until I received a communication from a retailer yesterday that Noval had declared two weeks ago but lo, there it is listed in the first post with no fanfare and no other reference that I can see? Also see that the NN 2001 is now to be released.

When I get around to it I'll load up copies of the press announcements relating to the release of the N14 and then link the reference in the first post to the announcements.

Pintas added to the list after a conversation and tasting with Sandra Tavares. Jolly nice it was too! One I can recommend to anyone looking for a port for a birth or christening present.

Churchill have declared a Vintage Port for 2014
Total production 10,300 litres.

I have just received the press release.

Only available in Magnums and half bottles... somewhat unusual....

Potentially a clever commercial decision? With the relatively small overall quantity, not releasing a 750ml product removes a pricing "benchmark" and perhaps allows the pricing on the halves and magnums to be stretched a bit to drive better margins?

It's not that small a quantity - 1,150 cases is more than Noval declared - but your commercial logic makes sense.

I can't find any. There is plenty of evidence of Dow Bomfim Vale do Bomfim - which is the table wine - from 2014, but no mention that I can find of a port from the vintage.
