Three new members of the Confraria

Post by Axel P » 11:42 Sun 26 Jun 2016

Yesterday the new members of the Confraria do Vinho do Porto were inthronised in the Palacio da Bolsa in Porto.

Lets congratulate the three founding members of the Port-Forum to have the rank "Cavaleiro do Confraria do Vinho do Porto" from now on:

Derek
Alex
Julian

The are now hiding away from the Paparazis in a secret Quinta somewhere near the Douro Valley

Congratulations indeed :)
Trust you will have had a good celebration (or two) while there too. Well deserved, as this forum is definitely a significant contribution to the promotion of port. Cheers!

Many congratulations to you all, a great honour indeed - are there rights such as jus primae noctis associated with the rank?

Can we expect full regalia at all future Port tastings?
That's for the producers and mestres, an elegant tastevin and very elegant certificate for all others..

What a fantastic honour that is very well deserved! It has been a real privilidge to have joined :tpf: and enjoy the wonderful company of so many port lovers, but a special doff of the hat is deserved for the three founding members, who so warmly share their passion and knowledge with so many.

I look forward to a Boot & Flogger celebration tasting soon!

Congratulations,

Simon

Thank you everyone for your kind words. We did feel extremely honoured to be invited to become members of the Confraria do Vinho do Porto and had a wonderful time in Portugal over the weekend.

I think the sign above our heads pointing to the WC and CAFETARIA sets the picture off nicely

Indeed, and the hubcaps on your chests are also impressive. Makes me think of Run Dmc and the clocks they wore on stage.

Great picture, you do all look splendid.

I think the purple tubes with handles look ominous. Did it all get a bit 'assassins creed' and you had to murder someone from the sherry producers association before you were accepted?

Incidentally, about that toilet sign which seems to be attracting as much attention as the men we admire; do my eyes deceive me or is the senhoras sign in fact non-binary?

Most amusing Run DMC reference Mr Tremula. Chapeau.

Apparently the correct term for the hub cap is a tambuladeira.

And indeed, the sign for the woman's toilet is non binary. It reflects the fact that a woman is always accompanied by her handbag when visiting the bathroom.

So, any thoughts on when we should meet to celebrate and what we should drink (other than it is mandatory we drink port)?

Will you now exclusively use your tambuladeira at future tastings? Cuts down on glasses, but makes equal pours tricky to judge.

This is wonderful and well-deserved, and I am gutted I missed seeing all of you parade down the street. Agree with the rugged good looks and well chosen setting for the photo comments! Saúde!!
