2000 Offley

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at the Confraria do Vinho do Porto dinner. A lovely crimson shade of red with an opaque centre. A nicely balanced nose of strawberry jam and rose petals. Smooth texture onto the palate. Good fruit but powerful tannins grip firmly very quickly. The fruit is ripe and fragrant and develops well with air to release more of the flower elements. Violets dominate the aftertaste and leads to a long and very chewy tannin infused slightly green finish of superb length. Needs at least another decade to come fully into balance. Potentially extremely good port. 90/100 but potential to reach 93-94. 25-Jun-16. Decanted 12 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
