1986 Warre LBV

Post by PhilW »

Being thirsty, opened another of these. The first bottle I have been disappointed by; it has all the right flavours BUT with an overlay of... pear drops? (possibly not the right name, but you know, the red/yellow sweets we had as kids). This was decant +2h, so it might have blown off or improved by tonight, but I fear that may be wishful thinking.

Pear drops is a classic sign of volatile acidity (VA). Sometimes this integrates into the wine and adds a layer of complexity that is quite enjoyable but other times it is just too intrusive and detracts from the enjoyment of a wine. Hopefully you have the former and not the latter.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Perhaps they were rhubarb and custard?

Fingers crossed for better integration tonight per Alex's comments.

No improvement after 24hrs. Still perfectly drinkable, just not the loveliness it should have been.
Rated ok (faulty).
