Bottled 1986. Polished mahogany in colour, 60% opaque. Smelly on the nose with some bottle stink dominating at first. Light texture on entry, rather watery. The palate is built around a tannic core which reveals molasses and grapefruit with a hint of treacle. The acidity burns on the aftertaste before this port delivers its only redeeming feature of a very long, dry finish of burnt sugar. This is a port which is drying out and fading and did not show well. 81/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

60% opacity, brown. Soft nose, burnt caramel, orange. Reasonably well balanced with acidity, fruit, tannin. Oranges on the palate, though lacking backbone.
