1977 Smith Woodhouse
Deep red in colour, no magenta but also no bricking; opaque. Fresh fruit salad on the nose, full of mixed tropical and temperate fruits; complex and really rather nice. Restrained on the palate at first, then generous sweet red cherry fruit and a big dose of tannins. Soft on the palate with generous acidity and effortless balance - a port in its prime. Lovely lingering finish with lots of sweet black cherry and dark chocolate. Another port that is drinking well today but will last another 10-30 years without too much difficulty. Served blind this was guessed to be Morgan 1991. 89/100. 15-Feb-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

SW77 Big Fruits, very deep in colour, almost purple. Some minty eucalyptus on the taste and nice alcohol on the finish. This is still showing young and a great example of the vintage. Served blind this was guessed to be a Martinez 85.

SW77: dark red, 70% opaque. Palate of dark plums, and big young fruit. My second place, behind the O70.
