1952 Niepoort Garrafeira (bottled 1974)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled in 1955, decanted in 1974. Deep olive brown in colour; 50% opaque. Strange on the nose, slightly earthy or musty like a blackberry suffering from mildew. Burnt sugar and oranges on entry with a very generous dose of acidity that provides a balance to the burnt match tone of the burnt sugar. A hot aftertaste precedes a very long and chewy finish of hot rubber bands. This gives the impression of being a port on the decline. Served blind this was guessed to be an elderly LBV - Dow 1962. 84/100. Drunk 25-Sep-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
