1995 Warre Cavadinha

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk with a picnic lunch on the terrace of Echo House at Quinta do Bomfim. Deep red in colour, the colour of black cherry juice; opaque at the centre and with a medium rim. Very surprising on the nose, bringing fresh peaches and canned cherries to mind; fruity and attractive but oddly muted. Gentle fruit appears on entry, but very different from the fruit on the nose as this tastes of stewed dark plums backed by generous levels of acidity and a sprinkling of dusty tannins. The fruit is still youthful with an enjoyable black cherry aftertaste and a good, chewy dark chocolate finish. This makes for pleasant drinking and is in no hurry to be drunk up - perhaps good for another 20 years before starting a slow decline. 87/100. Drunk 28-Sep-16. Decanted 4 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
