1985 Dalva Colheita (bottled 2014)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at Quevedo's Quinta Santa Rosario with Oscar and Claudia Quevedo and Christian Gollnick. Bottled 2014. Dark olive-brown colour with a hint of green on the rim; 60% opaque. A touch of petrol on the nose, quite a lot of VA - and a lot more released with a swirl - but it settles down to a pleasant over-ripe fresh orange. Lusciously thick in texture with a good acidity supporting a sweet core based around dates and dried apricots. Air forces out dried thyme and orange marmalade. Delicious dried apple on the aftertaste with a long finish showing a bit of tobacco. This is great port, but a little overwhelming and not something you could drink a lot of. 92/100. Drunk 28-Sep-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
