1970 Graham

A few of us gathered in the B&F to do the obvious, sighted. Perhaps a photograph of the glasses will be used on the cover of The Book.

G70, Wine Society bottling, with the ghastly lurid red Paisley-esque pattern used by the IECWS for the 1970 vintage only. Perfect to behold: glorious red, 50% opacity. Palate starts big and sweet. Also big at the ending. But the mid-palate slightly hollow. Lovely, but not quite as full and lovely as DRT’s stash of G70.

A stash (bottled by Harvey's of Bristol) that has diminished to only two bottles :(

Deep clear red in colour; palate smooth and sweet, full with red cherries. Lovely port.

Wine Society bottling. Lovely mature colour, 60% opaque. Spicy and lively nose, hints of sweet red jellied fruit but something unpleasant and dirty on the palate - really quite unpleasant. Hints from the taste of what could be, but certainly not a pleasant set of flavours. There is some fragrance on the aftertaste with milk chocolate and raisins on the aniseed balls finish. Not rated. Decanted 7 hours
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
