1900 Krohn Colheita (bottled 1988)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 1988. Deep brown in colour, almost the colour of tar and just as opaque! Some soft toffee and black treacle on the nose but this port only comes to life when you take a sip. This is poised and powerful, full of rich and slightly dirty pineapple and toffee apple. Great acidity provides the perfect balance and keeps the palate fresh - intense and yet so "spot on" if slightly rustic. Immense aftertaste and a finish that combines sweet and slightly gritty dates with the bitter-sweetness of burnt sugar and a hint of hot rubber bands. What an amazing wine. Served blind, this was guessed to be the 1906 Quinta do Mourao colheita. 97/100. Drunk 30-Nov-16. Decanted 1 day.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
