1985 Berry Brothers
Raspberry red in colour, still surprisingly vivid; 70% opaque. Lovely nose of sweetened cranberries and cinnamon infused oranges. Balanced entry bringing fresh fruit, slightly sour like cranberry juice. On the mid-palate comes more subtlety with cedar wood and nutmeg and gentle hints of tannins. Fresh and lively, focused by the cranberry acidity. The acidity flicks at the back of the throat as you swallow before a warm heat tingles the inside of the mouth. Lots of gentle pepper, licorice and delicious sour fruit. A great bottle of a very good port and one that will happily last another couple of decades. 92/100. Drunk 19-Nov-16. Decanted 30 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
