1998 Dow Senhora da Ribeira

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at the Symington Family Estates presentation of their 2015 ports.

Dark red with a touch of brick, a narrow transparent rim. Surprisingly mature on the nose with soft sweet fruit, but not yet showing spices or tobacco. Smooth entry with restrained sweet fruit, soft tannins show on the mid-palate and dry out the late palate with a pleasant chocolate tone. A lovely licorice tone leads the finish, dark and lingering, delivering a lovely length with a slight woody flavour at the end. This port will benefit from more time in the cellar. 90/100. Drunk 18-May-17. Decanted 2 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
