1996 Barros Colheita (bottled 2016)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 2016. Amber in colour, 15% opaque. Subdued nose showing a little fresh zucchini, of all things! Balanced on the palate although rather hollow initially with some faint lychee and syrup flavours. The flavour profile improves on the late palate but never reaches great heights with some mild milk chocolate and orange reduction appearing only with a lot of patience. The chocolate and orange dominate the aftertaste and the spicy and sticky finish. Rather an odd wine. 82/100. Drunk 24-May-17.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
