1986 Fonseca Guimaraens Vinatge Port

Post by DRT »

1986 Fonseca Guimaraens Vinatge Port - tasted Oct 2005

On Decanting
Dark brownish red with not much on the nose

+ 4 Hours
Purple rim, slightly spirity nose with not much fruit. dark chocolate and black cherry taste, not smooth. A bit too much heat for me.

+24 Hours
Smoother, but still not much fruit. No heat now. More enjoyable than day 1 but not great

I think you got a bad bottle. I've had this three times and it has been very enjoyable on all occasions. No notes, of course, not appropriate at Christmas Dinner.

I found that it died after two days though.

I posted two notes on this wine - the other is here

I agree that this one was probably a bad bottle. Although it's interesting that the bad one improved over 24 hours whereas the better one faded away over the same period.
