1994 Rozes LBV (unfiltered)

Post by g-man »

No decant drank immediately.

clear reddish purple with a hint of brown
very pleasant nose of stewed red fruits, cinnamon, hint of mint.

mouth feel of sweet red cherries, prunes with a hint of an herbally component (leaning towards anise). medium body and hot. Needs to blow off that alcohol.

slightly bitter milk chocolate finish of 20-30 seconds

not a bad port at all and worth the 20$ US paid for. 88pts.

3 hours later
the alcohol has melded better, the tannins are softer. The fruit and nose is still there.
will try again tomorrow night.

21 hours later

florally nose of rose petals with a stewed sour cherry and mint.

sweet red prunes and cherries, a nice spiciness came out, medium body still but slight lighter no more herbalness. Alcohol has melded very well.
with a fine smooth milk chocolate finish of 30 seconds.

I like this a lot at 21 hours, 91 pts.

I suspect this was the unfiltered bottling of Rozes? (They make both.)

I've had several vintages of the unfiltered Rozes and every time I was very much suprised by it. Really good ports with good ageing potential.

yea the rozes unfiltered special edition.

at 40 hours, this port while still nice is starting to lose some fruit. the nose is starting to show a little greeness as is the body. While still sweet, you can start tasting a decrease in fruit.

As I just had the 97 unfiltered LBV close to the 97 VP I could only say this: an exellent LBV, but a fairly weak VP. I think this is the line at Rozes. They take extremely care with their (unfiltered) LBVs, but the VPs often lack concentration and depth.
