1983 Offley Boa Vista
The first of a case of 12, this one condemned because of a slightly raised cork. Cork extracted whole and without fuss with Durand. Wine in splendid condition.

Deep red, 70% opaque. In the mouth young and vigorous, black-cherry led, seemingly barely mature, quite warm on the finish.

Opened out considerably. reminiscent of not-over-sweetened bakewell tart made with poached black cherries. The almond frangipane element is marked, and very attractive.

Last glass saved for re-evaluation. Good balancing acidity. Long, balanced, prune-led finish. Not over-sweet.
This is admirable port. On its plateau, but nowhere near the end of it. I am very happy to have more of this, and I am confident that it will still be delicious on its fiftieth birthday.
Consumed 6,7,8 February.
