1997 Quinta do Noval LBV (unfiltered)

Post by DRT »

Purchased from Uncle Tom a few months ago from a case of 12 purchased at auction. The last bottle of the 6 I bought

All six bottles have had a thick, sticky, gloopy, viscous sediment stuck to the side of the bottle and the base of the cork and also lots of that grape skin looking stuff when you rinse the bottle out. I have never seen the oily stuff before. I wonder if these bottles have had a trauma of some description?

The nose is nice spicy fruit and the texture is substantial but not quite thick and chewy. Lots of tannins kicking around in this wine and no heat whatsoever. A lovely black fruit mouthful with a decent finish.

This is a very good LBV. If you find it, buy it. Noval LBV is rarely expensive and, IMHO, is almost always under-priced when compared with big name filtered LBVs
