1995 Quinta de Vargellas
Served blind. Very deep red, an opaque centre that - on closer inspection - could be seen to be just transparent; solid red rim and pick tears on the glass showing the youth of the port. A strawberry nose with a distinct minty (AB said spearmint) component - very Taylor. A deeply flavoured entry with an almost woody flavour. Harsh acidity of youth in the mid-palate, with the acidity just being dominated by the fruit. Lots of tannins still in the wine. A long aftertaste. This is a good port, still very young and with a great future ahead of it. Try this again in 5 years. 4/5. I guessed Vargellas '91, CG guessed Dow 2003. Drunk on 10 April 2008 after 5 hours of decanting.
