2014 Fonseca LBV
Bottled 2019, open about 30 minutes. A lovely plum red colour with an opaque centre and a wide rim. Plum jam on the nose combined with rock rose perfume. A lovely chocolate and bitter blackcurrant palate. Generous fruit, yet with gentle but lively tannins. A massive wave of acidity swamps the aftertaste, fading back to blackthorn and dark chocolate on the long finish. This is perfectly capable of aging for 5-10 years to soften and gain complexity, but is also very easy to drink. 87/100. Drunk 12-Mar-23.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
