Cliff decided that we needed a Celebration of 1955, and volunteered many many bottles. Harry organised. Others were grateful. It started at lunchtime, on Tuesday 13th June 2023, at the Boot & Flogger.
A light copper-red colour, 20% opaque. A surprisingly smoky nose, smelling of singed raisins. Lovely liquid raisins on entry, golden sultanas on the palate yet still with a decent set of ghostly tannins. A lovely acidity keeps the wine balanced. The finish is of sticky black fruit pastilles. This is a very enjoyable honeyed wine with a bitter marmalade finish, but a little too light-weight to be top-echelon. 89/100. Tasted 13-Jun-23. Decanted 14 hours.
