Need for space forces this sale

Post by Hopkino »

Port friends.
I’ve been holding a number of VP’s for a few years, a lot purchased through reputed auction houses & VW&P.

Having carefully stored these bottles on terracotta racks, behind a closed cupboard on a solid slate floor I now need to look at offloading most of the below in pursuit of the need for space.
I’ve previously considered storage options, but these were not cost efficient. Ideally I’m looking to part with most of these as a single transaction, but happy to discuss further if there is interest. I appreciate that returning the value of my outlay will not be possible & be reassured that I still love drinking VP, but the demands of a 4yr old & limited space forces this position.

Hello. Roughly where are you (in UK?) How much do you have of each wine? Single bottles?

The above is the entire list. Where each bottle is quoted more than once, this indicates multiple bottles. It is a cut/paste from a spreadsheet & appreciate the way it is laid out may not be the best visually.

Need for space forces this sale

Post by Hopkino »

Thanks Martin. What I want, what they’re worth and what I’ll likely receive are all very subjective answers - after all something is only worth what another person is willing to pay. I’m not sure this thread is the right platform for haggling, although I’d happily entertain any reasonable offers made privately. I have observed many newcomers arrive on this platform having discovered their deceased relatives cellar stored collection quoting retail values only to be reminded that these are inflationary and often wildly optimistic.
I’d prefer to be realistic around value & would much prefer that these are taken on by someone either to hold or enjoy. I need the space as soon as practically possible, with my worst case scenario of auctioning these off.

Hi I agree as well about haggling and I'm not interested in that either.

I'm not a dealer so I'd be keeping and drinking over time.

Might I suggest you PM me with what you want for the lot and I'll either accept or pass at that value.

Cheers

Martin

I was hoping Paul as the vendor would reply but since not ... he as I requested provided a price for the entire set and as I said in my message, I'm not into haggling, his prices was somewhere between what it all was buyable for on the Internet and 15% more so I politely declined to complete the sale and pointed Paul at bid4wine.

Cheers
