2000 Fonseca LBV (unfiltered)

Post by DRT »

Bottled in 2006

This was a pop-n-pour with no decanting.

Very dark with an attractive floral nose. A nice mid-weight texture with lots of ripe black fruits and lots of tannin. The finish is probably the least satisfying aspect of this wine but is by no means disappointing. A very nice glass of port that will no doubt improve significantly in 5 years or so.

I think I will buy some to stick away.

Score: 5:7

I used to hate Fonseca LBV for being so bloody hot. Like they crushed an entire bunch of red chilis and threw it into the juice. But it looks like they've improved. Or maybe the 2 years in bottle did the trick...

This had no heat whatsoever. Very smooth. I will be re-visiting in later tonight and it will be interesting to see what 24 hours of air has done to it.

Thinner and less impressive tonight. The tannins are quite overpowering now. Still none of the heat that Ronnie mentioned.
