Huge amount of lumpy sediment.
Colour a cloudy strawberry red, going towards copper red.
A not unpleasant but rather weak nose of strawberries, some cherries and some tomato. Quite some alcohol in the mouth. On the palette mainly strawberries, some cherries, elderberry, raspberry and maybe a hint of liquorice. An acceptable long aftertaste, but rather one dimensional. No tannins.
Throughout the 24 hours this Port spent in the decanter, there was no development worth mentioning.
A tired port that, although not entirely faded yet, should have been drunk at least 10 years ago.

1984 is one of those vintages where there were some decent wines made that are still drinking well - Fonseca Guimaraens when I last tried one about 3 years ago, for example.
However, it was not a consistently good vintage across the whole of the Douro and Silval is not one of the wines that I have ever tried or ever read about.
Interesting note. Thanks for trying it for us.
