NV Croft Pink

Post by RonnieRoots »

Found this in a store in Pinhao and couldn't resist, so I paid the 10 euro and put it in the freezer to make it as cold as possible.

Bright pink colour, and a sweet nose that shows some bright raspberries. No alcohol showing on the nose, which I think is a big plus for a port in this range. The taste is very, very sweet. But the fruit is clean, and it is clearly well made. Again, not hot at all. Do I like it? No. Did I finish my glass? No.

This port is clearly not to my taste, but I must admit that it's very well made, and it will probably find an audience. But the question is, who will that audience be? Isn't 10 euro a bit much for those who like their drinks overly sweet? Won't those people choose rosé d'anjou above this? And will Croft Pink drinkers eventually move on to 'real' port? I don't know.
