Dow 1983: Very hot, dark plummy, pruney fruits on the nose. Flavor strong prunes and bitter chocolate. A substantial port. I know Dow has a reputation for dryness but I did not find this overly dry, perhaps the dryness was balanced out by the rich, strong flavors and body. One of my favorites of the evening.

Dow 1983: Cloudy purple, with a light nose, JES rightly finding lemon. Medium-light, hot, short, dry, dull.

Not obviously the same as Eric’s experience.

Cloudy ruby, slight browns coming in. Spirity nose of Black pepper, hint of lemon at the end. This dry wine is all black pepper, front and back. Again there was cherry in between, and I have recorded that there was a hint of apple (though I am not sure if I was the first to detect it). If a wine could be "Pepper forward" this would be it. Otherwise this is a very "together" wine and fits right into the Dow style. (91)
