Old & Odd, New York, Friday 7th November 2008
I can't find the original thread for this tasting, but there was a tasting arranged in New York in May (if I recall correctly) that was postponed at my request so that I could attend.
I will be in New York on the 15 and 16th of October. Is anyone interested in resurrecting this planned offline?

Re: New York - Postponed Old & Odd Tasting
I’m in. O&O became the LBV tasting — which is why you can’t find it.
PM invitation sent to ajrh, differentdave, EricD, g-man, hwangs, jfacciol, SEAN C., SushiNorth, Andy V, bob and AHB himself.
First question: Wednesday 15th October or Thursday 16th October 2008?

If it is Thursday, October 16, I would like to join.
Re: New York - Postponed Old & Odd Tasting

Re: New York - Postponed Old & Odd Tasting
Considering i will have just gotten home from my trip overseas 3 days earlier and Alex's L.A. offline on the 21st., I will no doubt be broke and not able to fly across country again for another offline, as much as I want to. So unless something changes, I most likely won't be able to make this.

Re: New York - Postponed Old & Odd Tasting
Count me in, think think I may need to adopt or source though. I will keep my eye out for something very old and or odd though.
Re: New York - Postponed Old & Odd Tasting
I own four suitable bottles — adopt from me.
Jay wants Thu 16 Oct, and g-man probably shouldn’t come on either date. That suggests Thursday 16 October 2008.

Re: New York - Postponed Old & Odd Tasting
I can make Thursday 16th, but do not yet know where I will need to be on Friday 17th or whether that day will be the day I am deposed by plaintiff's counsel.
Bearing in mind I may need to have my wits about me on the Friday, I would very much prefer to have the tasting on Friday evening, if that fits with the social plans of others.
I have a bottle of "Refreshed 1896" port shipped under the name of Garcia. I know nothing about this bottle but would welcome an excuse to open it in the company of others who would find it interesting. This was the bottle that I was hinting of bringing to keep Jay's Schofield from being lonely.

Re: New York - Postponed Old & Odd Tasting
Fridays are generally better for me, I can 1)drink more 2) stay out later and 3)not have to go into work the following the day.
Re: New York - Postponed Old & Odd Tasting
Friday sounds good to me. But there has been such a huge outbreak on this forum of sensible statements about when to drink port that I am not sure this is really theportforum.

We have a date. Title edited to “Old & Odd, New York, Friday 17th October 2008†.
Jay: this thread has mentioned that Friday evening is a good time to drink port. That view is fully consistent with official policy. Other good times to drink port, also consistent with official policy, include Monday lunch, Monday afternoon, Monday evening, Tuesday lunch, …, Friday afternoon, Saturday lunch, …, and Sunday evening. This would not be the real ThePortForum if any of these self-evidently excellent times were widely denied.

That sounds like we just drink too much, how about any day that ends in a "y"jdaw1 wrote:We have a date. Title edited to “Old & Odd, New York, Friday 17th October 2008†.

Re: Old & Odd, New York, Friday 17th October 2008
I called up Henry's End and they're willing to host us late on friday for roughly 8 (as in 6 or 10 range) people.
They said if we come in at 9pm we'd get the restaurant for the rest of the night.

Corkage is 25$/bottle
and the wild game festival starts in 2 weeks.

Re: Old & Odd, New York, Friday 17th October 2008
Jeff, do I understand correctly that we could not start until 9 pm? That's too late for me, although the restaurant looks quite tempting.
Re: Old & Odd, New York, Friday 17th October 2008
We’ll have a bottle or so of port each. That needs most of five hours.
Re: Old & Odd, New York, Friday 17th October 2008
Unfortunately i don't own the restaurant so I couldn't say =)
But the guy that picked up the phone did strongly hint at "later" in the night for fridays that I took to mean 9 =) ... I'm sure we can get away with 8:15-8:30

I need to start at about 6 pm. I have a memorial service that I am attending in Westchester the next day and cannot burn any midnight oil.
My vote, therefore, would be to keep looking for another venue.

would you guys be interested in joining me there for dinner regardless not related to this tasting?
It was very good last time and I found it perfect for colder weather?

Re: Old & Odd, New York, Friday 17th October 2008
I'm a bit hacked off, but it seems that I will need to move my US visit back by a couple of weeks. It now looks like I will be in LA on November 2-4 and in New York on November 5-7.
While this will give T-Bird another shot at attending, do these dates work for other folks in New York?
Alex
