How to celebrate 20 years of employment....

Talk about anything but keep it polite and reasonably clean.

How to celebrate 20 years of employment....

Postby benread » 05:22 Fri 26 Sep 2008

...all with the same company!

Answer:
Lunch with 7 friends in the City - The Gun on Brushfield Street (near Liverpool St)
Steak & Kidney pudding - the best in the City in my opinion!
Fonseca Guimaraens 1988 - The year I started work. I also have a Quinta da Corte 1987 as a couple of my fellow trainees started then.

...and the afternoon booked off! :D
Tasting notes cannot be guaranteed!

Enjoy. Steak and kidney is a joy inaccessible this side of the water.

For those in the city I can report that The Gun (54 Brushfield St) about 1/4 mile from Liverpool Street station is a great place for a long lunch with port and friends. The landlord was very happy for us to bring our own port (GBP15 corkage was not unreasonable).

The Fonseca Guimaraens 1988 was actually the declared favourite for the majority of us. I think this may reflect the heavy nature of our lunch and the fruity red wines we were drinking.

Compared to the other bottle of this I have had, I can say that it seemed to benefit from being decanted at 6am for consumption at about 3pm - 9 hours give or take.

We continued on afterwards, drinking jugs of Davys crusted port. Perfectly acceptable by that stage of the afternoon / evening!

Sounds splendid. Only two things wrong:
1. The absence of me;
2. The absence of tasting notes.
One of these can be remedied.

I will do my best to remedy the latter - lack of actual notes and quantity / time lapse allowing!
