1997 Cockburn: a too-young red fading to dark pink at the edge. Nose of vegetables! Parsnips? Buttered peas? SRC said “broccoli†. Short, and lightly bitter. Not liked.

A very young "raw" smell with a hint of VA. In the mouth "chocolate - slightly bitter - nice long finish"

Normally I would not broach a vintage port less than fifteen years old, normally twenty. However, I heard that this one may mature early. Is it fair to conclude from your notes that it is better to give it a few years yet?
It may be drivel, but it's not meaningless.

I would say yes, leave this for a few years yet.

Deep red but showing signs of aging in the colour. Nose of fresh cut cabbage, mint and grass. Dry entry, soft redcurrants but a hard streak in the mid-palate. Lots of fruit in the aftertaste, which lasts well and finishes with oranges. A second sip and the tannins show through thye masses of fruit. 89/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Year/Viticulture
Was truly an excellent year in the Douro Valley. The harvest was one of the longest in living memory. AT the far eastern extremities of the Upper Douro, picking began before the end of August and continued until the second week of October in the cooler areas of the Cima and Baixa Corgo. The crop was small and produced grapes with wonderfully concentrd flavours, provding outstanding wines with excellent structure and an intensely fruity aroma.

Tasting Notes
Deep and dark in colour. Has a nose of rich plums, blueberries and figs and it is big, with a good tannic structure and some nuances of chocolate.
