An odd bottle acquired from Strakers last year.
Although originally a separate company, Gilbert wines now appear to be a badge engineering exercise by parent company Burmester. This was evidenced by the cork on this bottle, which was simply branded "VINTAGE 1991" with no shipper's name.
The wine was dark, smooth, and immediately approachable, with little evolution after decanting. A little lighter than the Morgan, with just a hint of Cocoa on the palate. From a stable that has little reputation for VP, this was a good effort.
Nice to drink now, a few more years will do no harm
Score 5-6
