1997 Ramos Pinto vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Lighter than either of the '98s, showing some fruit on the nose with distinctive cedar wood in the mix. Sweet fruit initially, which stays with you as the tannins appear but there is a slight imbalance and an odd woodiness to the fruit. Hopefully this is just a feature of this wine at 11 years of age abd it will integrate and improve. A big aftertaste, dominated by fruit and chocolate digestives. A very good wine from a lesser known producer. Excellent. 91/100. Drunk 27/11/08 after 1 hour in the decanter.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
