Adhoc Dec 26th stasting in NYC

Post by g-man »

Any of you NY port nuts want to adhoc a tasting?

Some of us were lucky to snag a few Fonseca 77s and I'd like to open one of my bottles to see how the rest of the case may be.

Place: whereever we gather
Time: anytime after 5:30pm
Wines: I don't know but there will be a Fonseca 77.

Would you be interested in combining this with the maturation tasting? I can just bring the 91 vargellas for the fun of it...

possibly, if it doesn't turn out, I'll open it up to the dry reds crowd where we have port for dessert.

There's no lock-in for jan 3...
Also, btw, I do happen to have an extra of Fonseca's SQVP from 05. Maybe we go with an emerging theme?

Which is?

Drink any random bottle of port at Julian's place? (akin to getting drunk on fine alcohol theme)

g-man, jdaw, are you in favor of merging the two tastings (this one and "maturation tasting")? I'm available either date, please let us know what you prefer.

you do realize we would now have 8 bottles amongst 4 people.

While I can probably drink 2 bottles of port and still be some what coherent, it's probably not adviseable esp the day after christmas after coming off from work =)

Hmm, that's an excellent point, especially as i've a much lower capacity :).
ok, I guess we're drinking fine port two weekends in a row, one to end 08, the other to begin 09.

What's the line up for this tasting again?

we have Fonseca 1977, Fonseca 1970

Tasters include:
Julian,
Josh,
Tbird,
Jeff,
mareff (possible)

we could bring in the Fonseca 97 (per Tbird), Fonseca 03 (per Josh)

I only have 1 bottle of the F91 that we could save for the maturation tasting or for drink now.

I'd vote on the 97 if you could simply because the 00 would be very similar to the 03 (which is even better) . That and I've haven't tried the 97. :D

Well, my share was "supposed" to be Taylor QdVargellas 91, Fonseca 03 ($80) to match Julian's Fonseca 70 ($a,lot).
I have Fonseca 05, tho, which I could bring instead of the TQdV91. They were priced the same ($47). Alternatively, perhaps someone wants to just work out a deal with Julian so we each are contributing about $50-70? Personally, I'm happier with equal or fewer bottles to # of people.

Okay, Let's do the Fonseca 03,
Mike, can you pick up the Fonseca 97? (Or actually the 2000 if it's the same price)

So our line up would be

Fonseca 1970, 1977, 1997 (or 2000), 2003
