I have a non-drinking friend that I may bring to this tasting (aka my DD heh) if that's ok.

If the shampers tasting, ‟6:30 PM - 8:30 PM”, is to be a ‟break from port”. then we’d have to start the port at, say, 2:30pm. That works for me, but my understanding is that Josh is doing something intellectual in the afternoon i.e., isn’t with us.

or perhaps we do a first tasting of the ports. Allow to open decant for another hour while doing some bubbly tasting.
and come back and retaste to see if air time has perhaps improved quality of tasted ports?

Yeah, based on the 5:30+ and the threat of food before hand, I was thinking this was an evening tasting. Was planning on wandering around NYC for a bit during the day, catching a bite, then heading over to our port venue :)

Moving this item over here:

half into a sealed, refrigerated bottle
half into a decanter for oxidation
I like the split decanting.
are you guys still game for this Fonseca 03 decanting plan?

Split decanting OK with me.

Also, what time should the ’70 be decanted?

i'M going to decant the F77 7:30 am before heading out to work...
as based on uncle tom's notes perhaps this would do well with the early open.

as with the 70s, it sounds like 4-5 hours might be a sweet spot

The TPF Offline Guide wrote:Q: Given that decanting hours in advance is recommended for most VPs, how is that handled?
Decanting in advance is indeed important, and is discussed a little ahead of the event. Usual practice is to double-decant (that is, decant into a clean something, rinse original bottle thoroughly with water, rinse it once more with a small splash of the port that is then discarded, pour port back into original bottle). Usual time for decanting is the morning of the event, but as it can depend on the type and age of the port, it is usually worked out as part of the offline planning.

I'll tell you what, if we arrange this tasting such that it is in the afternoon, (4pm) but can avoid having it run all night I can adjust my dinner plans/etc accordingly too.

This tasting won’t run all night.

But immediately after this tasting finishes, at Tame O’Clock, there will be another tasting, with the theme of drinking the remnants from the first tasting. That second ‘Remnants Tasting’ may well run all night.

3PM today:
2003 Fonseca poured (unfiltered) into a half bottle, corked, and refrigerated; other half decanted/coffee-filtered and left in the decanter.
