1977 Dow vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Lightly coloured, clear mid-red centre and bricking on the rim. Elegant restraint on the nosem showing licorice and stewed rhubarb. Lovely entry, very dry but still full of fruit. With some work the mid-palate shows an amazing combination of spices mixed in with redcurrant cordial - like drinking mulled wine! A big aftertaste, mouthfilling and long lasting with lots of flavours to keep the palate interested. A much better showing than a Dow '77 tasted the previous week. 92/100. Tasted 27/11/08.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
