2000 Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red and opaque centre. Absolutely nothing on the nose. Very sweet entry, which immediately dries out as the strong tannins come through. Aeration only shows more tannin but always with the cherry juice flavours trying to fight their way to the front of the wine. Impressive, delicious now but likely to be a beauty in a few decades. Finishes with an enourmous aftertaste which leaves the cheeks dry , the lips sticky and the mouth watering from the fruit and acidity. Huge. 94/100. Tasted 27/11/08.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
