Re: 1985 Cálem
1985 Cálem: orange! Orange much like the 1963 Borges & Irmão was orange. Smells old too, with lots of acid in the nose. Eric D said ‟fermented dairy product”, and ‟yoghurt”. To taste a lovely oil texture, light flavour, hot at the end. Very short. Very thin sweet in a barley-sugar way, and AJRH rightly adding ‟a little faded”.
Functional nice port, most of a decade ago.
Also see the ½:½ blend of this 1985 and the 1994, the blend labelled 1989½Â±4½ Cálem.

Re: 1985 Cálem
1985 Cálem: Surprisingly light tawny color. upon nosing and tasting, it was quite evident that this was just a little past its prime. Still fairly decent, however, with a nose of milky caramel and yogurt. The taste was quite smooth, with no discernable tannins remaining, again I noted that it was 'creamy' - Eric T noted 'cream soda'. Quite pleasant overall, but fading a little.

Re: 1985 Cálem
I'm a bit surprised!
I have a few of these in the cellar, and when I last tackled one in Dec '05, I was suitably impressed, but thought a little more time was needed..
- Will try to re-visit before the year is out..

Re: 1985 Cálem
This one was very different from the only other Cá85 that I have tried (which I also didn’t like). Maybe an imperfectly stored bottle.
Re: 1985 Cálem
The following day, with Eric, the Cálem 1985 still smelt of acid and stink. Tasted of same barley sugar, and heat. ED said ‟candied citron”, and ‟milk chocolate”, I agreeing with the former.
