1995 Niepoort Colheita (bottled 2006)

Post by Michael M. »

Bottled in 2006. We had this one on two days.
Light ruby colour, looks pretty young. Nose did not give away much, a bit plum, toffee. Initially acceptable, elegant mouth feeling. But finish is quiet short and ends pretty simple on sugar. This Colheita lacks so much complexity. It was the third bottle during 2 years and the third frustration. I can't say I like this Colheita better than my current House Tawny Ferreira Dona Antonia. Only price for the Dona Antonia was less than one third of the Niepoort price.

Have you tried the 1994 Niepoort Colheita? If so, how do they compare?

The surrounding two Colheitas (1994 and 1998) are, in my opinion, both excellent so don't let this one put you off them. I notice that this had much longer in wood than those two (11 as opposed to 8 years); I wonder if they were trying to compensate for a weaker wine?
