Tasted at a vertical of drinkable Graham's Vintage Ports from the past 50 years, held on the ever auspicious Friday the Thirteenth (February 2009) and hosted graciously by jfacciol.

Re: 1983 Graham
Opened by Port Garrotte (a first!) and decanted, only very fine sediment.
+0 medium red, like a rose, and very transparent. Vegetal taste in the nose and too much heat, with cherries and plums afterwards. In the mouth, nice long flavor that starts very vegetal (like a dark lettuce) and then proceeds into cherries, plums and licorice. The tail is very long, 30 seconds or so, with a continuation of fruit and lots of that licorice. Giving it a shake and hoping for the best.

Graham’s 1983: mid red. No notes on the nose. To taste heat, light, somewhat astringent. Rightly likened to tea.
Re: 1983 Graham
Sweet cinnamon spice with strawberries on the nose.
Sweet reddish berries that turns acidic like into currants/raspberries.
Good weight on the palate with nicely integrated spirits, that finishes with a nice tobacco finish that lingers for 30+ seconds.
I like this and would say drink now.

Re: 1983 Graham
+6 Dark ruby, semiclear. The nose is full of menthol, with some floral and chocolate hints. There's mint and licorice in the mouth, but too astringent. It's a medium length tail.
I thought this wine was a poor showing when i opened it, and while it improved by +6 and +8, it rapidly faded back to its rough undertones a day or so later. Jeff says "drink now," but I'd suggests holding it a while longer and seeing if it improves. 88.
