1978 Fonseca Guimaraens Cruzeiro

Post by StevieCage »

1978 Fonseca Guimaraens Qta. d. Cruzeiro VP
Tasted 17.10.2004: decanted some 4 hours in advance. Rather dark, but mature looking. Alcoholic on the nose, with a strong leather component and sweet red fruits. The medium to thick body also shows loads of leather, brown sugar and strawberry. Very hot at first, but this faded with additional sips. Nice finish, but with a strange aspirin bitterness at the end. I like this Port more and more, and the bottle emptied rather quickly. Fully mature: drink now. Better than the 80 points JS gave it (in 1989): I'd rate it 85 points.

Apologies for dredging up an old post, but could anyone confirm if this is a single-quinta Guimaraens?

I can so confirm.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
