An extra guest for at Vargellathon - a tasting of Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas port from 1964 to 1996. Held at The Crusting Pipe on Tuesday 24th March 2009.
This bottle was kindly supplied by Christopher to see whether it could become the next Morgan 1991. It was decanted at the Crusting Pipe and drunk shortly afterwards.
As with many 1985s, this is quite light in colour. I didn't take a proper note as we drunk it with dinner, but I remember it being an entirely pleasant Port; much less complex than I remember the 1991 to be and with less of a future ahead of it, but something I wouldn't object to having in my cellar.

Re: 1985 Morgan VP
Pale colour, mature and light centered. Mature red fruit on the nose, smelling very sweet - perhaps slightly stewed. Light bodied and very sweet but with a pleasant peppery bite. Good fruit, but limited complexity. Pleasant enough aftertaste of decent duration. Extremely enjoyable, mature and ready to drink but not a serious or heavyweight port. 87/100. Drunk 24 March 2009.
