2003 Tesco (Symington) LBV
Not decanted.
Very dark. Violets on the nose but also a little raw. Nice smooth entry. Quite light weight but good levels of dark fruits. Very dry tannic kick in the mid palate but then a nice long strawberry finish. A little hot but not too distracting. I think this would be a good port to drink from the fridge in the summer.
Ay £7.39 this is pretty good value when compared with Taylor or Grahams LBV at nearly twice the price.
Will report back if it changes over time.

Derek,
is it specified to a certain producer or how did you get the connections to the Symingtons.

It has "produced and bottled by Symington Family Estates" on the label but does not mention a specific house.

D+2h
Still quite tannic but good levels of fruit and very smooth. More heat than before but not too much.
A very good QPR port. I will buy more.

Do you think this might have the same consistency issues that seem to affect the Tesco VP (with some being extremely good for their cost and some being extremely bad)?DRT wrote:A very good QPR port. I will buy more.

I think with this and most other supermarket ports, if you buy from a large store [where turnover is fast] and avoid bottles covered in dust that have obviously been there for months then you should be OK. With this being a cheaper bottle I would expect long shelf storage to be less of a risk than ith the more expensive stuff.JacobH wrote:Do you think this might have the same consistency issues that seem to affect the Tesco VP (with some being extremely good for their cost and some being extremely bad)?DRT wrote:A very good QPR port. Perhaps interesting to note that a glass of this immediately after the Taylor Vargellas 1998 was not in any way unpleasant.
