1999 Quinta do Crasto LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Unfiltered. From a half bottle. Deep red colour, solid centre and deep red rim. Smelling of sour cherry juice and strongly herbaceous. A dry entry, more sour cherries before a silky texture develops but there is always a strange and slightly unpleasant herbaceousness. After a time, the soft tannins show through and lead to an eventual mouthful of sweet fruit. There is an unfortunate burn on swallowing, but the aftertaste is soft, pleasant and of decent length. Not great port, but adequate drinking in an emergency. 85/100. Drunk 10 APril 2009.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
