1996 Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port

Post by DRT »

Emergency Decant 88)

Going away tomorrow morning for 5 days away from home living in a hotel so no idea whether or not I will be able to get a glass of port (apart from 15 bottle Offline on Wednesday  )

Very dark with a spicy nose. Surprisingly light in the mouth but lots of black fruit and tannin. Still at cellar temperature (12C) so probably not showing at its best right now.

More later

Derek

Yedick, it's the "Taste the Difference" stuff. I saw it waiting to be shipped last October at QdC and Meguel said it was the real McCoy

I only picked up two but had no immediate expectations of this. I expect it to come together in about ten years or more.

I suspect that in ten years' time we may have the same number left.

When did Crasto first produce and market their own SQ's?

The earliest record I have is '94, but I suspect they pre-date that..

I think it could indeed be the '94, but I'm not entirely sure.

What can I say? I was tired and emotional and this was the first bottle that came to hand. I offer no further excuse. I am a bad person

Derek

PS: I have the remaining half bottle in my hotel room - will report back later on how it is coming along

+48 Hours

Not worth a note. Rather soft and uninspiring - not sure if I like this stuff but willing to accept it is far too young to enjoy.

I have not had the 96, but thought that the 95 was quite nice. Young still but nice.
