Consumed on 20 May 2009 at The Crusted Pipe in a "bring a bottle to share" and 2007 Horizontal offline.
One of 5 samples of the 2007 Vintage tasted in the mini-offline. The tasting was carried out "double blind" (unusually in the scientific sense, as the test administrator, AHB, did not know what he was administrating to us). Hopefully Derek still has the key of which letters was allocated to which shipper .
The original title of this thread is/was 2007 "A" Vintage Port. Once the shipper is disclosed, it will be renamed.
A was one of the best two samples on the night. Extremely drinkable it was probably the most floral of the samples (although there was also a heavy grapyness). The tannins were quite light; it does make me wonder how long this vintage will last. I would put this second after "E" for drinking now.

Re: 2007 "A" Vintage Port
Nose: Good, firm fruity
Colour: Pale for a young VP
Palate: Light if a bit sharp
Conclusion: Appealing to those who like ultra young VP, but an old term: 'Breakfast wine' came to mind..
Best guess - Taylor

Lots of spirit on the nose, with chocolate, cherries and rhubarb very noticeable to taste. I noted that this "assaulted" my taste buds in a good way. I may buy this.

Just had the chance to try three of your samples. When will you lift the curtain?

Re: 2007 Quinta da Romaneira (formally "A") Vintage Port
Not much to say on disclosure, except that I am very impressed with the quality. Another victory for the independants!

Sample A I liked very much when we tried the wines for the first time in the Crusting Pipe. But then somehow it seems to have lost its apeal to me.
very expressive nose, black currants, quite fat, lacks finesse, slight dry in the finish. Have tried one day later at home with a friend on which it showed worse than on the May offline tasting, it showed rather simple and less expressive
